Workshop on applications to artist-in-residence calls
and other funding programmes
- practice-oriented selection and successful application -

Applications have become an integral part of the everyday professional life of visual artists, be it for grants, project funding or stays abroad. The latter in particular play an increasingly important role in the networking and professional success of professional artists. But where can one find suitable open calls to artist-in-residence programs? Which residency makes sense for one's own artistic practice and lifestyle? And what do you have to consider when applying in general?

The practice-oriented workshop provides an overview of artist-in-residence search portals, application procedures and funding opportunities. In the detailed practical part, the application documents of the participants will be discussed and individual support for their own application for suitable AiR and other funding programs will be given. We develop concrete decision-making aids for the own selection and application. A special focus is on the participants' existing texts such as artist statements, letters of motivation and project presentations.

For this, we will address the following questions:
-How do I analyze an advertisement?
-Who is my application aimed at?
-Which AiR program is suitable for my artistic practice and lifestyle?
-How do I formulate my project proposal for the application?
-Do I need an artist statement and how do I formulate it?
-What does my resume need to include?
-How do I compile my portfolio and which texts need to be in the portfolio?

Please bring your application documents, if available, in analog form!
E.g. portfolio or catalog, vita, artist statement, project proposal, calls for proposals if applicable. Feel free to also bring (successful or unsuccessful) applications to past calls (AiR programs or others)! Please also bring an internet-enabled device.
