Series of conversations with curators and guests in and around of Cologne about currents projects and questions towards contemporary art

Q: Maria, you've been working for the past five years as an independent curator in the Rhineland. In your last exhibition "Tavidan" you brough artists from Georgia in dialogue with artists from Dusseldorf. To what extent did this differ from your previous projects?
A: A deciding factor for the exhibition was my contact to Georgian artist and curator Wato Tsereteli. He runs the CCA Centre for Contemporary Art in Tbilisi with a so-called 'informal school', offering workshops for art students with themes like 'Agriculture and Art' (...) I am opening the new space "Tiefgarage" in the former "Boutique" at Cologne's Ebertplatz. Therefore, the question that concerns me is about the future of this area. How can artists and local initiatives maintain and support this spot?

Maria Wildeis is an art historian and works as an independent curator and cultural manager in the fields of visual art and music. In Cologne, she has realized, among other events, the art festival "Strom" at the Kunsthaus Rhenania, 2013, and under the label "Heimat+Sachkunde" initiated the various projects. She runs the Cologne based project space "Tiefgarage".
